Fun in the garden!!!

We had lots of fun in the garden today. From our bed, number 16, we  harvested the craziest carrot we have seen yet. They still taste sweet and more yummy than the shop carrots.  When we measured the pH of the soil in our bed it was still neutral, pH =7, so we didn’t add any wood ash.

Still butternut pumpkin to harvest. The pumpkin can last 2-3 months before it has to be eaten. We put them on the window ledge in the kitchen and have been cooking with them since Term 1.

Sunflower poem

Sunflower, sunflower where have you been?
I have been resting in my little pod pod.
Oh little sunflower why were you there?
Because I am ready to sprout to the top of the tower.

Grade 5’s sharing garden experiences with Grade 1’s

IMG_0464Here at Bialik, informal ways of engaging students from younger year levels is vital for both groups. For the older kids it deepens their understanding about the garden as they instruct the younger kids to get involved, answer questions and see things in new ways. For the younger kids it is an opportunity to learn from older more experienced students and new relationships based on admiration and respect are built upon. Well done Grade 5 for sharing your garden.
