The children gathered and collected objects from outside. Looking closely at each item, they observed, wondered and developed their own theories. Each natural object was a provocation for learning, unpacking understandings and constructing new questions.

After looking closely at a wasp’s nest using the document camera, the children made observations and drew the object using fineliner to show shape and detail. Afterwards the children using the iPad app 30 Hands to photograph their drawing and record their voices. The children were asked the question, What do you think you know about wasps from looking at the wasp’s nest?

The children were captivated by the cocoons and butterflies during their visit to the butterfly enclosure. After the experience the children were asked the question, What happens inside a cocoon? The children shared and drew their theories.
