Exciting, engaging and fun food education \u2013 children and teenagers work together to learn valuable life skills!<\/strong><\/h1>\n

\"\"The<\/span><\/span> Kitchen Garden Program is an integral part of the Years 4 and 5 curriculum that develops students thinking skills and<\/span><\/span> knowledge regarding <\/span>the health benefits of fresh, seasonal food. The program is <\/span>a specialist-delivered model where a garden science specialist and a kitchen science specialist team teach with the classroom teacher<\/span>. <\/span>This approach enables the program to be implemented in an authentic and meaningful manner incorporating all aspects of the curriculum. <\/span>U<\/span>sing a <\/span>range of scie<\/span>ntific equipment to systematically collect, record, and evaluate data t<\/span>hey <\/span>learn the science behind growing, <\/span>harvesting<\/span> and <\/span>preparing meals<\/span>.<\/span> Students <\/span>create positive lifestyle cha<\/span>nges in th<\/span><\/span>eir own lives and the greater school community.<\/span> <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As part of the ETGAR program the year 8 and 9 students work with the year 4 and 5 students to develop and care for the veggie garden. Certain produce is also grown by the year 8 and 9 students for them to prepare sweet and savory delights to sell in their student run caf\u00e9 as part of their building a business elective.<\/p>\n

The Year 8 and 9 students also have ownership over the frog bog and are responsible for researching, planning,\u00a0budgeting, ordering and building the frog bog and how\u00a0the frog bog will be maintained. This process is incredibly successful in students gaining an appreciation of the steps and skills involved\u00a0in running and managing\u00a0a project.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
